Inspect the Holder
- Ensure the strap is clean, intact, and free from damage or deformation. Check that the Velcro fasteners are secure.
Adjust the Fit
- Wrap the strap around the patient’s neck, leaving a 1–2 finger-width gap (approx. 1.5–2 cm) to avoid excessive tightness (impairing breathing) or looseness (risk of tube dislodgment).
Secure the Tube
- Insert the tracheostomy tube flange or locking mechanism into the holder’s slot, ensuring the tube remains centered without twisting or excessive pressure.
Fasten the Strap
- Tighten both ends symmetrically and press the Velcro firmly in place. Verify that the tube’s depth markings are within the safe range.
Monitor Regularly
- Check strap tightness, skin condition, and tube position every 4–6 hours. Clean or replace as needed to prevent pressure injuries or slippage.
